  • State College Area High School’s After School Programs: Elementary Mentoring Program and African American Support Group
  • The purpose of this program is to increase the academic and social achievements of African-American students and to serve as a resource for parents, educators, and all who seek to enrich the lives of these students.
I.  State College Area High School's After School Programs:   Elementary Mentoring Program and African American Support Group

a.  The Elementary Mentoring Program was developed by Penn's Civilians Educational Organization.  The Elementary Mentoring  Program takes African American elementary students from a  neighboring elementary school to engage in programming at the high  school.  The program consists of:

               i.  Daily academic enrichment and homework assistance.
               ii. Occasional field trips
               iii. Social Activities
               iv. Peer mentoring (Mentors obtained through Pennsylvania State  University)

b.  The Brothers to Brothers; Sisters to Sisters, a program  developed by Penn's Civilians Educational Organization, combined  with an extracurricular club already in existence at the State  College Area High School known as the African American Support  Group. 

The Program consists of:

               i.  Homework assistance
               ii.  Educational Field Trips
               iii. Social Activities
               iv. Peer mentoring (African American Mentors obtained through  Pennsylvania State University organization known as the Black Caucus)
               v.  Guest lecturers
               vi. Career Exploration/Guidance
               vii. College Preparation

c.  Both of these programs meet weekly during the school year.
